How much does custom printed packing tape cost in 2026?

Per-roll prices, the setup fees that hide behind them, what a real first order comes to, and how the main sellers line up.

At small-business quantities (36 to 216 rolls), custom printed 2-inch BOPP packing tape costs about $13 to $22 per roll, plus a one-time setup charge that ranges from nothing to several hundred dollars depending on the printer. Water-activated paper tape runs higher per foot. Parcelry's custom tape is $13.49 to $16.49 per 55 yd roll and $17.49 to $20.49 per 110 yd roll, with print setup charged once: $349 at 36 rolls, $149 at 72, free from 144.

The five things that set the price

  1. Quantity. Printing tape is a press job. Setting up the press costs about the same whether it runs for 36 rolls or 360, so the per-roll price falls as the order grows. This is the biggest lever by far.
  2. Print setup. Every design needs a plate or an engraved cylinder. Some printers bill it as a line item, some bury it in the per-roll price, and some charge it again on every reorder. Always ask whether setup is charged once or every time.
  3. Number of ink colors. Each color is another cylinder and another pass through the press. One color is the standard price almost everywhere; a second color adds setup; three or more usually means a custom quote. Most logos look best in one color on tape anyway.
  4. Roll length. The common lengths are 55 yd (50 m) and 110 yd (100 m). The longer roll costs more per roll but noticeably less per foot, because the core, the winding and the packing cost the same either way.
  5. Material. Glossy BOPP film is the standard and the least expensive. Water-activated kraft paper tape costs more per foot and needs a wetting dispenser. The BOPP vs paper guide covers the trade-offs.

What a real order costs, all in

Parcelry's prices are per roll of tape, with print setup shown separately so the total is never a surprise. US shipping and any sales tax are added on the final quote, and orders of 216 rolls ship free.

*Two strips on a medium 12-inch box, about 55 boxes per 55 yd roll. See how many rolls you need for the math.

The 110 yd length is $4 more per roll at every tier ($20.49, $19.99, $18.99 and $17.49) for twice the tape, so a 36-roll order of 110 yd comes to $1,086.64 and seals about 3,960 boxes, roughly 27¢ a box. For most shops shipping over 100 packages a month, that is the better buy.

Reorders are where custom tape gets cheap. Your print cylinder stays on the press, so a reorder is the same per-roll price with no setup at all. A 36-roll reorder of 55 yd is $593.64, about 30¢ a box.

Founding members get 15% more tape, free. Every roll on a first order is wound 15% longer at the same price, roughly $89 to $567 of extra tape depending on the order size. It is a limited launch offer; the regular prices above are the real going prices, not a markdown.

How the main sellers compare

These are the listed prices on each company's own site when we checked in June and July 2026. They change, so confirm before you buy. Parcelry has no commercial relationship with any of them, and the table includes paper tape as well as BOPP because buyers compare across both.

Two patterns stand out. Paper tape costs roughly 50 to 100 percent more per foot than BOPP, which is the price of the compostable material and the slower application. And the cheapest BOPP is only cheap at 400 rolls and one black ink; the moment you want your brand colors, a proof, or an order you can store in a closet, you are back in the $13 to $22 range.

Hidden costs to ask about

Is custom tape worth it?

At 25 to 48 cents a box it is one of the cheapest branded touches a shipment can carry, and unlike a sticker or an insert it is on the outside, where it is seen by everyone who handles the parcel and by the customer before the box is even open. Compared with a printed box, which typically starts at $1 to $3 each at small quantities, printed tape on a plain kraft box gets most of the effect for a fraction of the cost, and it works on every box size you ship.

Common questions

How much does custom printed packing tape cost per roll?

At small-business quantities of 36 to 216 rolls, custom printed 2-inch BOPP tape runs about $13 to $22 per roll depending on roll length and quantity. Parcelry charges $13.49 to $16.49 per 55 yd roll and $17.49 to $20.49 per 110 yd roll.

Is there a setup fee?

Usually. Printing tape needs a plate or an engraved cylinder for each design, and printers either charge for it directly or fold it into the per-roll price. Parcelry charges print setup once: $349 at 36 rolls, $149 at 72 rolls, and nothing from 144 rolls up. It is never charged again on a reorder.

Why does a two-color logo cost more than one color?

Each ink color needs its own printing cylinder and its own pass on the press, so the setup cost roughly doubles. On a small run that second cylinder is most of the difference. We print 2 colors at the same per-roll price from 144 rolls, where the extra setup is spread over enough tape.

How much does custom tape cost per box?

With two strips per medium box, a 55 yd roll seals about 55 boxes. A 36-roll order at $942.64 all in comes to about 48 cents a box; 144 rolls at $2,158.56 comes to about 27 cents a box; 110 yd rolls bring both figures down further.

Do I have to pay for a proof?

Not here. The logo preview, the digital proof and unlimited tweaks are free, and nothing is charged until the proof is approved.
